Wine Spectrum owner Glenn Siegel debuts

his new rock opera at 6th Street Playhouse

SANTA ROSA, CA – He may be the owner and president of Wine Spectrum located in Santa Rosa’s Historic Railroad Square, but for Glenn Siegel of Sebastopol, music remains his first passion.

A guitarist, singer and composer, Siegel has written more than two hundred songs. For the last three years Siegel has concentrated his musical efforts on “Great War Chronicle,” a rock opera set during World War I.

Siegel’s dream of seeing the musical performed for an audience will be realized Aug. 19 to Aug. 28, 2011 when the 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa presents a workshop production of “Great War Chronicle” in its studio theater.

“This was an unexpected work of spontaneous songwriting that erupted over a six-week period,” said Siegel. ”When I realized what was happening, I got caught up in it. I was intrigued by the era and was inspired and excited to tell a classic story in a mixed genre format. Hence the modern music.”

PRODUCER: 6th Street Playhouse presents

WHAT: “Kiss Me, Kate”
Music & Lyrics by Cole Porter / Book by Bella and Samuel Spewack
1999 Broadway Revival Version

William Shakespeare’s timeless battle-of-the-sexes “The Taming of the Shrew,” combined with the incomparable music and lyrics of the great Cole Porter becomes “Kiss Me, Kate,” a sophisticated musical comedy.

It’s a play within a play, where the interior play is a musical version of “The Taming of the Shrew,” produced and directed by the egotistical Fred Graham, who co-stars as Petruchio along side his ex-wife (the less than wooable Lilli Vanessi) as the “shrew,” Kate.

The couple engage in an emotional war that threatens the production’s success. The only thing keeping the show together are threats from a pair of gangsters, who have come to collect a gambling debt. The show must go on and in classic musical-comedy fashion, slapstick madness ensues. Throw in a score of memorable tunes and more than 15 Tony Awards and you’ve got “Kiss Me, Kate.”
