This ½ mile-long linear park and creek restoration project offers a gentle westward journey spanning from Santa Rosa Avenue to Fulton Road—a serene urban oasis for residents and visitors alike.
FROM NATURE AND ART TO HISTORIC ARCHITECTURE AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES, THERE’S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
For architectural aficionados, the Prince Memorial Greenway trails offer an opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the creek while enjoying up-close views of the historic buildings that define Santa Rosa’s downtown area. Picturesque bridges allow you to cross the creek, providing ever-changing perspectives of the rippling water below, as well as views of egrets, fish, and other wildlife.
While the Prince Memorial Greenway is a city park, much of the day-to-day maintenance and improvements is done by dedicated volunteers, known as Friends of Prince Memorial Greenway. From Nature and Art to Historic Architecture, There’s Something for Everyone
Using historic building materials, the creek channel has been masterfully transformed into a series of terraces adorned with landscaping, trails, and plazas. The trail is bordered by native plants that have played a crucial role in the ongoing restoration of the creek ecosystem. The removal of concrete from the creek bed, reshaping of the banks, and introduction of various trees have collectively rejuvenated the riparian environment and established it as a sanctuary for local wildlife and fish.
Artistic benches, murals, and sculptures are peppered throughout the landscape, making it a perfect destination for art lovers as well as nature enthusiasts. As you enter the Prince Memorial Greenway at the northwest corner of Sonoma and Santa Rosa avenues, you’ll be greeted by a magnificent 13-foot sculpture named “Guardian of the Creek.” This rainbow trout sculpture, designed by Mario Uribe and sculpted by Daniel Oberti, invites you to explore the delightful fusion of artistic expression and the tranquility of nature.
